| Architect to Louis XIV, born in Paris, France. Elected a member of the Académie (1671), he designed the chapel of la Salpêtrière (1670), to which J H Mansart later added the church, and the Hôtel des Invalides, Paris (1670). A gifted architect, his style is strong and restrained. |
