| biography:
| Entertainer, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He appeared as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at 14, and earned a living under his stage name. Over the years he developed an act of popular piano classics performed with a lavish sense of showmanship. His television series, The Liberace Show (1952–7), won him an Emmy as Best Male Personality, and he broke all box-office records at Radio City Music Hall in New York City during 1985. His enduring career rested on his live performances and a flamboyant lifestyle, full of piano-shaped swimming pools, glittering candelabra, and sartorial excess. His books include The Things I Love (1976). |
