| Physician and scientist, born in Schenectady, New York, USA. Licensed as a physician in 1818, he used his rural travels to collect natural observations. He taught scientific subjects at Rutgers (1830–1, 1838–53) and elsewhere, and wrote various works, including Gazetteer of Illinois and Missouri (1823). |
