| Soviet politician, born in Moscow, Russia. He was an active revolutionary from 1901, and was exiled to Siberia in 1915. Liberated during the revolution (1917), he became a member of the Communist Central Committee. Expelled as a Trotskyite in 1927, he was readmitted next year but again expelled in 1932. He was shot after being arrested with Zinoviev for conspiring against Stalin. |
