| Pianist and composer, born in Soshly, E Lithuania. He studied briefly in Berlin when aged 14, then went to the USA, becoming a US citizen in 1891. He worked at the Chicago Conservatory of Music (1895–1900) and was professor at Vienna (1909–14). A master of the keyboard, he also wrote over 400 compositions and transcriptions, including Triakontameron (1920). |
