| Playwright and novelist, born in Munich, S Germany. Following World War 2 he studied dramaturgy and pursued a career as an actor, director, broadcasting editor, and writer for stage and radio. His plays Philemon und Baukis (1956), Sie werden sterben, Sire (1964), Der arme Mann Luther (1965), Fettaugen (1969), and Leben und Tod des Jörg Stupina (1976) portray individuals in hopeless borderline situations. In later years he has also become known for tautly constructed novels with strong plots, such as Vom Webstuhl zur Weltmacht (1983) and Die Wiesingers (1984). |
