| Writer, born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He studied at local public schools, delivered newspapers by truck for the San Francisco Call-Bulletin, and served in the Marine Corps (1942–45). Eventually settling in Aspen, CO, he wrote popular best-sellers such as Exodus (1957), and also many screenplays, including Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957). Later novels include QB VII (1970), Trinity (1976), The Haj (1984), Mitla Pass (1989), and A God in Ruins (1999). |
