| biography:
| Librarian, writer, and critic, born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He was raised in California where his father, a noted agronomist, managed Sunkist Growers. After spending most of his career as a library administrator at the University of California, Los Angeles, he moved to the University of Arizona (1971) to teach English and write about the American SW. A recognized expert on the works of poet (and fellow Occidental College graduate) Robinson Jeffers, he wrote hundreds of articles and reviews and more than a dozen books, including The Alchemy of Books (1954) and Books in My Baggage (1960). |
