| Russian soldier, a Cossack born in W Siberia. In World War 1 he took command of all troops in August 1917, and marched on St Petersburg. He was accused of trying to set up a military dictatorship, was forced to surrender by Kerensky, and imprisoned. He escaped and organized an anti-Bolshevik force, but fell in battle. |
