| biography:
| Dancer, choreographer, and teacher, born in New York City, USA. She studied at Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts and School of American Ballet, danced in Paul Taylor's company (1965–6), and worked with Meredith Monk, Kenneth King, and Robert Wilson. She began choreographing in 1967, and in 1976 formed Laura Dean Dancers and Musicians, mainly featuring her own scores and those of composer Steve Reich. In 1980 she choreographed and composed the music for Nights for City Center Joffrey Ballet in New York City. |
