| Priest and botanist, born in Arjeplog, NC Sweden. He was a parson in Karesuando in 1826, where he continued his botanical work. In the early 1840s, he underwent a profound spiritual crisis and began the ecstatic revivalist preaching that had great influence among the Lapps. Today there are some 300 000 Laestadians in Finland and 20 000 in Sweden. |
