| Gymnast born in Kherson, S Ukraine. She studied at the Kiev State Institute of Physical Culture, competed in three Olympic Games (1956, 1960, 1964), and was the first woman athlete to win nine gold medals. During her 13-year career she won 24 Olympic, World, and European titles. She retired in 1966. |
