| biography:
| British statesman. He studied at Cambridge and became MP for Calne. He succeeded Pitt as member for Cambridge University (1806), and also as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Grenville administration. In 1832, as president of the council, he helped to pass the Reform Bill. In 1852 he was requested to form an administration but declined, serving without office in the Aberdeen coalition. |
