| Businessman and politician, born in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, USA. In 1912 he founded A M Landon & Co to produce oil, and had become a millionaire by 1929. As Republican Governor of Kansas (1933–7), he supported the New Deal, but opposed labour unions. After losing the 1936 presidential election, he returned to his oil firm. |
