| Racing cyclist, born in Plano, Texas, USA. He gained the World Championship title in 1993 and was ranked world number one in 1996 when he became ill with cancer. He later made a remarkable comeback, with his achievements including four times winner of the Tour de France (1999, 2000–2) and a bronze medal in the time trial at the Sydney Olympics (2000). In 1996 he established the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a charity to aid the fight against cancer. |
