| Italian politician, prime minister (1995–6), and economist, born in Florence, Tuscany, NC Italy. Governor of the Bank of Italy (1979–94), he resigned to take charge of the treasury in the Berlusconi government. He then became prime minister in 1995, heading a cabinet of specialists until April 1996. In 1996 he became foreign affairs minister in the Prodi government. |
