| Feminist and writer, born in Ranchi province, Chota Nagpur, E India. She studied at Sydney University, and became an activist for the League of Nations, secretary to the National Council of Women, and president of the Feminist Club. In 1929 she was the founding president of the United Associations of Women. She was the only woman delegate at the San Francisco conference (1945), from which evolved the UN. Her husband, Sir Kenneth Whistler Street (1890–1972), was Lieutenant-Governor and Chief Justice of New South Wales, as was her son, Sir Laurence Whistler Street (1926– ). |
