| Actor, born in Alt Aussee, C Austria. He worked for many years in theatre in Germany and in Vienna, where he has long been associated with the Burgtheater. He made his film debut in 1972, and became internationally known after his role in Mephisto (1980), which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. He received an Oscar nomination for his role as Baron Blixen in Out of Africa (1985). Later films include Hanussen (1988), The Russia House (1990), and Becoming Colette (1992). |
