| Ballet dancer and choreographer, born in Burlington, Vermont, USA. He trained at the Washington School of Ballet and became a leading dancer there. After a spell with the Joffrey Ballet, he joined the American Ballet Theatre as soloist (1979) and principal dancer (1980), and was appointed artistic director of the company in 1992. |
