| Australian nurse. She began practising in the bush-country in Australia (1912), then joined the Australian army nursing corps (1915–19). She developed a new technique for treating poliomyelitis by muscle therapy rather than by immobilization with casts and splints. She established clinics in Australia (1933), Britain (1937), and America (Minneapolis, 1940), and travelled widely to demonstrate her methods. Her autobiography, And They Shall Walk, was published in 1943. |
