| Computer scientist and engineer, born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He joined American Telephone & Telegraph Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ (1966), and with Dennis Ritchie he developed C language and UNIX (1973). His research centred on programming languages, operating systems, and computer games. He also co-developed several chess-playing machines. |
