| biography:
| Legendary heroine of the siege of Haarlem (1572–3) during the Revolt of the Netherlands, leader of a band of Amazons who repelled the Spanish assault. Her name (Kenau) is now synonymous with a tough fighting woman. Some modern scholars claim that this is only legend and that she may have left the town before it surrendered; she survived the siege to continue her timber business. |
