| biography:
| Outlaw, born in Beveridge, Victoria, SE Australia. After shooting a policeman who was attempting to arrest his brother, Dan, he fled to the outback, where he was joined by his brother and two others, and formed the Kelly gang. They carried out a series of daring robberies (1878–80) which, coupled with Ned's home-made armour, made them into legendary figures. After a siege at Glenrowan township, he was arrested, taken to Melbourne, and hanged. |
