| biography:
| Architect and designer, born in Auckland, New Zealand. He began designing glass in England in the 1930s, moving to silver and then to ceramics, principally for Josiah Wedgwood & Sons. His hallmarks were simple, functional, clean shapes relying a great deal on turned grooves and stepped surfaces. These were executed in black basalt or earthenware with matt glaze effects in cream, green, or straw colours. He exhibited widely, including a one-man show at the Medici Gallery in 1935, and the fifth Triennial in Milan in 1933. |
