| Postmodern dancer and choreographer, born in Tokyo, Japan. She studied in Tokyo, and at the Juilliard School, New York City, where Anna Sokolow taught dance. In 1969 she formed her own company, Moving Earth, and began her major work, Light. Fifteen parts of this harsh depiction of survival, which starts with the Vietnam War and includes both primitive and contemporary images, were shown in a single performance in 1981. |
