| Novelist, born in Nagasaki, Japan. He came to Britain to study at the University of Kent before joining Malcolm Bradbury's creative writing course at the University of East Anglia. His third novel, The Remains of the Day (1989, filmed 1993), won the Booker Prize and established his reputation. Later books (all written in English) include The Unconsoled (1995) and When We Were Orphans (2000). |
