| Writer, born in Levuka, Fiji. She studied in Melbourne, and worked as a journalist there and in London, where she published her first novel, The Pioneers (1915). In 1916 she returned to Australia, and produced 12 novels, many poems, plays and short stories, and an autobiography. Notable titles include Coonardoo (1929), and the Australian goldfields trilogy: The Roaring Nineties (1946), Golden Miles (1948), and Winged Seeds (1950). She was a founding member of the Communist Party of Australia. |
