| Poet and writer, born in Hanover, NC Germany. His early nature poetry was influenced by Oskar Loerke and Wilhelm Lehmann, his later work by the French and Spanish Surrealists. Regarded as one of the most significant modern poets, his work is characterized by a simple but elegant style with emphasis on rhythm. He has also written essays and translations and some important literary criticism. In 1956 he was awarded the Georg-Büchner-Preis. |
