| Zoologist, born in Helmstedt, NC Germany. He studied at Göttingen, and became professor of zoology at Giessen (1850) and Leipzig (1869). A pioneer of parasitology, his work on classification is important, especially his division of the Radiata into Coelenterata and Echinodermata. He also distinguished himself by his study of the Entozoa. |
