| Botanist, born in Munich, SE Germany. He taught at Tübingen (1892–1902), Leipzig (1902–9), and Münster (1909–14) universities, and from 1914 was director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Biological Institute at Berlin. He rediscovered the neglected results reported in Mendel's paper on the principles of heredity, and confirmed them by his research on the garden pea. |
