| Engineer, born in Bergzabern, SW Germany. He studied at the Polytechnikum in Karlsruhe, and from 1855 taught at the polytechnic institute in Zürich. His principal work was in graphical statics, which he systematized and elevated into a major method of structural analysis, introducing the use of force and funicular polygons and the method of sections. |
