| Imam of the Ismaili sect of Muslims, born in Geneva, SW Switzerland, the grandson of Aga Khan III. He succeeded his grandfather as 49th Imam in 1957. Educated at Le Rosey in Switzerland, he later studied oriental history at Harvard. He married an English woman, Sarah Croker Poole, in 1969 (dissolved, 1995), and has three sons and one daughter. He is a leading owner and breeder of race horses in France and Ireland. |
