| biography:
| Flemish novelist and poet, born in Oostende, NW Belgium. He was a teacher and chief adviser of the Arts and Language department of the Dutch Cultural Affairs Ministry. In this capacity, he contributed to the promotion of Dutch and Flemish literature, among others, by publishing essays and anthologies such as De literatuur in de Nederlanden in de moderne tijd (1959, Contemporary Literature of the Low Lands). His lyrical poetry breathes a melancholic atmosphere with a cynical undertone, centring around nature's beauty, the countries he visited, and his personal life. |
