| biography:
| Physicist, born in Lund, E Sweden, the son of Manne Siegbahn. He studied at Stockholm, was professor of physics at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, until 1954, then moved to Uppsala University. He devised the technique of ESCA (electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis), and also worked on the related technique of ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. He shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1981. |
