| Biblical scholar, born in Hameln, NC Germany. He studied at Göttingen, and became professor at Greifswald (1872), Halle (1882), Marburg (1885), and Göttingen (1892). He is best known for his investigations into Old Testament history and source criticism of the Pentateuch. He published several works, notably the Prolegomena zur Geschichte Israels (1883, trans History of Israel). |
