| Pathologist, born in Demmin, NE Germany. He held chairs in Kiel, Wrocław (formerly Breslau, Prussia) and Leipzig, and worked on many problems, including infectious diseases and cancer. He first elucidated completely the microscopical events of inflammation, and provided the first proof that tuberculosis was an infectious disease. |
