| Humanist scholar, born in Riva, N Italy. He studied medicine at Padua, became a French citizen in 1528, and settled in Agen, where he wrote learned works on grammar, philosophy, botany, zoology, and literary criticism. Titles include De plantis (1556) and his best-known work, Poetice (1561). |
