| biography:
| Writer, born in Brussels, Belgium. He grew up in Argentina where he was educated, and from 1935 to 1945 taught in secondary schools in several towns. He worked as a translator for publishers (1945–51), then moved to Paris, where he lived until his death, writing and freelancing for Unesco. He is one of the most widely recognized Spanish-American writers outside the Spanish-speaking world, owing this particularly to the filming of Rayuela (1963, Hopscotch), and of a short story, ‘Blow-Up’ (from Blow-Up and Other Stories, 1968), by the Italian director Antonioni. |
