| Writer of children's literature, born in Ecclesfield, South Yorkshire, N England, UK. She was first published at 20, and suggested to her mother the starting of Aunt Judy's Magazine (1866), which she later edited, publishing in it many of her charming stories, such as Jackanapes. Her numerous books included A Flat Iron for a Farthing (1870), Lab-lie-by-the-Fire (1873), and Daddy Darwin's Dovecot (1881). |
