| biography:
| Spanish novelist, writer of the first epistolary novel in Spanish and, according to R O Jones, the first such in the whole of Europe: Proceso de cartas de amores (1548). The story tells of an unhappy lover who diffidently declares his love, of the development of the courtship by correspondence, and the despair of the girl when the family take her to a new home. Though the epistolary vogue was not long coming, there was no immediate sequel to this important book. He also wrote the conventional religious works Libro de institución cristiana (1554) and Confesionario (1555). |
