| biography:
| Mathematician and moralist, born in Santisteban del Puerto, Jaén, S Spain. In 1590 he was appointed a canon of Granada Cathedral. His main literary work was the Philosophia secreta (1585), a deservedly popular work which retold Greek and Roman mythology in a charming manner, with a moralizing epilogue to each tale. Pérez de Moya, who performed a valuable service by producing a number of textbooks on mathematical subjects, also published Varia historia de Sanctas e ilustres mujeres (1583) and Comparaciones o símiles de vicios y virtudes (Alcalá, 1584). |
