| Poet and anthologist, born in Toledo, C Spain. His own poems a lo divino converted popular songs to religious use by altering the imagery in the manner of Fray Ambrosio de Montesino. They are collected in Coloquios, glosas, sonetos y romances ... (1580) and Romance de Nuestra Señora y Santiago, Patrón de España (1602). He also prepared two anthologies of religious verse, including some texts by Fray Luis de León: Cancionero general de la doctrina cristiana (1579) and Vergel de flores divinas (1582). His best poems are to be found in Vol. 35 of the Biblioteca de Autores Españoles ( 1855). |
