| biography:
| Jesuit and pseudonymous author of Tratado de las comedias (Barcelona, 1618) in which, writing as Bisbe y Vidal, he attacked the contemporary licentiousness of the Spanish theatre and proposed two changes in the practice of the law: that all plays should be carefully examined and if necesssary expurgated before licensing; and that permission for performances should be granted not to professional actors but only to people of the place where the play was to be performed, these to be men and youths known to be respectable. |
