biography: Neoclassical satirist, born in Dima, Vizcaya, N Spain. A provincial scribe in the civil service during the reign of José I, he was exiled to France (1812–22). He is best known for his burlesques in the tradition of Eruditus a la violeta by Cadalso, such as Libro de moda, o ensayo de las historias de los currutacos, pirracos y madamitas de nuevo cuño (1795) and Elementos de la ciencia contradanzaria (1796).
