| biography:
| Architect and designer, born in Innsbruck, W Austria. He trained as an architect in Turin, moved to Milan, and set up his own design office in 1946, becoming involved in the reconstruction of N Italian towns. As an industrial designer he is closely associated with the firm of Olivetti (from 1958), for which he designed several typewriters and other office equipment. His departure from mainstream design in the 1970s culminated in his leading role in the Memphis group (1981). |
