| Banker, born in Savannah, Georgia, USA. He studied at the University of Georgia (1958) and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1960), before joining (1961) Bankers Trust Co (New York City), the eighth largest US bank. Named president in 1983, he rose to chairman and chief executive officer (1987). He also served as an overseer of the Wharton School. |
