| Golfer, born in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. He won a record 18 tournaments on the US Professional Golfers Association (PGA) tour in 1945, 11 of them successive, and also won the US Open (1939), the US PGA Championship (1940, 1945), and the US Masters (1937, 1942) - a total of 52 US Tour events. He captained the 1965 US Ryder Cup team at Birkdale, and became a notable golf teacher and broadcaster after he retired from tournament play. |
