| biography:
| Physical chemist, born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He studied at Kentucky University and the California Institute of Technology, and was appointed professor of chemistry at Harvard in 1959. He deduced the molecular structures of a curious group of boron compounds by X-ray crystal diffraction analysis in the 1950s, and went on to develop theories for the chemical bonding in these compounds. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1976. |
