| Painter, born in Portland, Maine, USA. He studied with Asher B Durand in New York, and then abroad (1860–2, 1871–5). Based in Newport, RI after that, he painted Hudson River views as well as western landscapes, such as ‘Ships of the Plains’ (1872). |
