| Composer, probably born in Condé, NE France. Possibly a pupil of Jean d'Okeghem, he was composer to the Sforza family in Milan and Rome, Louis XII of France, and the Duke of Ferrara. From 1504 he was provost in Condé. A master of polyphony, he left a number of valuable Masses, motets, and secular vocal works. Charles Burney called him ‘the father of modern harmony’. |
